Looks like we get to spend more time with Olivia Benson.
It’s official: We’re getting more from Law & Order: SVU.
As the long-running NBC series wraps up season 27 on May 14, fans can’t help but be invested in every case Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her team take on. And given that the show has been on the air since 1999, it’s only natural that folks wonder whether they’ll get more time with their beloved first responders.
According to an Instagram video posted on April 16, Law & Order: SVU has been renewed for season 28 on NBC.
“See you for #SVU Season 28 🫡 ,” read the caption.
As soon as folks discovered that Benson and her team would return to TV for another season, they were ecstatic.
“Such good news 😍😍😍😍😍,” one person wrote in the comments. “Omg I’m so happy best tv show ever 💕🌸,” another penned. “I CAN’T WAIT!! Bringith hereth thy new season!! 🙌🔥👏❤️,” a different follower added.
Law & Order’s season 28 renewal is a history-making moment for NBC.
As The Hollywood Reporter noted, this extension makes Law & Order the longest-running drama to air on American primetime television. The news comes as the show’s spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime, was canceled after five seasons on TV.
Mariska hasn’t made an official statement about the renewal. But she did share her gratitude, posting a simple Instagram photo with the number “28” in it.
